Had to go out to the web and figure out the conversion rate J but yes, that’s the going rate here
too. The guy walks over, still wiping chocolate from his face from the mints
that were left on his $250/night pillow and pushes a button. It’s like getting
your phone connected for the first time. They’re sitting right there at the
keyboard and they can activate it in seconds but they schedule you for a week
from Thursday. Forget to pay your bill and it’s disconnected instantaneously.
But when it’s the only game in town, what can you do?

Are they charging £1000 a day?

Yeah, I don’t remember that slide in the original sales
pitch. It’s like buying a car and the dealership locks the hood and only
their mechanic has the key and the wiper fluid has run low. I can’t
justify this cost to my Management. I’m having trouble believing it
myself.

Randy
I find it odd that in an old NBU 5.0 article with the same problem
as you stated, that veritas (at the time !) suggested the same thing....
Note:
If
you are using NetBackup Vault and plan to decommission a media server, it is
recommended that you contact VERITAS Consulting for help with this task.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Media Server Retirement in 6.0
Windows across the board, 6.0 MP1, and I want to retire 3
media servers. Sounds easy enough, right? According to the
documentation, and verified by Symantec Technical Support, because I am using
NetBackup Vault, I need to avail myself with the services of a Symantec
Consultant to do this for me. That's all I got from them.
My boss is already having me
compare other backup products because of the maintenance check we write every
year for NetBackup. Now I have to go to him and say, "I know you're
tired of paying Symantec all that money and I know you thought we were going to
cut cost by getting rid of 3 of our media servers but guess what? We have
to pay Symantec to come over and turn them off for us."
It can't be that difficult, can
it? Can someone point me to some documentation, blogs, guidelines, NBU
gypsy tarot reader who might guide me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance,
Randy
