We were just running a test recovery of one of our backups that we run =
on a Sun Solaris box and discovered that anything listed in the Backup =
Selections section that was a "symbolic link" DID NOT BACKUP ANY DATA. =
It will backup the directory structure but not the file itself. YOU MUST =
USE THE ACTUAL PATH IN ORDER TO BACKUP ANY DATA.
=20
For example...
We have been doing hot backups of our Oracle Databases, and dumping =
them to an archive file in the following directory...
                u01/home/jcsmgrEXPORT/arch
=20
When you run the "ls -ltr" command from the EXPORTS directory it =
will display the archive file as the following symbolic link ...
                arch -> /u14/jcsmgr/EXPORTS/arch
=20
=20
=20
We changed the directory path in the Backup Selections of the backup =
policy to use the actual path ( /u14/jcsmgr/EXPORTS/arch ) and it now =
backs up the data.
=20
If you use any sybolic links on your Sun Soloris machines, it is =
imperitive that you confirm whether or not any of the diretories that =
you are backing up are actually symbolic links. Verify the actual =
directory path for the data you wish to backup, and use that in the =
Backup Selections of your backup policies.
=20
Happy to answer any questions that I can on this.
