If you haven't been collecting that information, I believe it's gone.

bplist isn't that great.  It doesn't tell you if the file was open while
you copied it, or if you got half a backup but had a tape failure in
between.  It doesn't tell you if the backup failed but immediately
retried and was successful.  It won't help you if you got most of the
files in an Oracle database - all you need to do is miss one archive log
and you're not recoverable.

Short answer:  If management wants this level of historical detail, they
need to pay for some tools to allow you to produce those reports.
Aptare's StorageConsole is a great product...  It took me about 30
seconds to generate a report showing all failed backups per client -
what the error code was.  It doesn't have an option to ignore retries
yet - some of the other reports do.

Adding StorageConsole now won't help you answer the question for what
happened last year.  It *will* help you next year when they ask the same
question again.
