There is such a hack available to use ssh.
We have found that a small install script with all the stuff wrapped up
is the best way. I did PKG up my Solaris one, but the script still is
not a bad way to go since it is OS independant.
I will share the script/packaging if you wish to have it. Just pop me an
email requesting such and I'll send an example you can modify, etc.

There is not much to it.
/usr/openv (stuff)
/etc/inetd.conf ... or ... /etc/xinetd.d (stuff)
/etc/services ... or ... niutil (macoxs)
HUP those (x)inetd critters.
My install script tries to do this all.
