I'm encountering what appears to be a very odd problem. We are a
predominantly Windows 2000 / NetBackup 4.5 MP3 environment. I need to back
up a few database servers that are NT4 SP5, and therefore need NetBackup 3.4
(which I have).

They need to use bpstart_notify.bat and bpend_notify.bat to shut and and
restart the database services. When any backup job is initiated by the
NetBackup server, BOTH the bpstart and bpend scripts run, at the exact same
time! ..And nothing runs when the job actually is finished.

Bpstart_notify.bat:
Echo Backup Starting > C:\bpstart.txt

Bpend_notify.bat:
Echo Backup Ending > C:\bpend.txt

If I make sure that C:\bpstart.txt and bpend.txt don't exist, and then
initiate a backup, they BOTH are created before the tape has even mounted in
the drive. The job still goes on to successfully backup files to tape.

The only potentially different thing about this server that I can think of,
is that it hasn't yet been rebooted since the NB3.4 Client Install. I'd
like to avoid rebooting this server if possible. I may be ignorant and
assumed that the requested reboot is only for OTM.

Has anyone seen anything like this?
