You also shouldn't make changes based on just these two entries, you have to
look at the entire scope.

1. What kind of backup was running when this was taken? (Full, Incrm,
CIncr)
2. What kind of machine(s) was(were) backing up during this log collection
(Unix, NT, etc.)
3. If it was an Incremental backup, would Multiplexing help?
.
.
.
You get the idea. Basically you should assess whether you really need to
change your buffers (which since you are WAITING for FULL buffers I would
say no to making them LARGER or more of them) or if you need to address the
style in which you are performing your backups. We could speculate all day
long on how and why you should change your configuration, but if we aren't
looking at the whole picture it doesn't do you any good long term.

I believe both settings may need to be adjusted.
Also, don't forget to increase the shared memory kernel parameter otherwise
the NBU settings will be useless. You're best bet is to consult with
Veritas support.

Hi,

What parameter should be adjusted given the following entries from bptm?

15:11:06 [165.212] <2> fill_buffer: [184] socket is closed, waited for empty
buffer 24 times, delayed 377 times, read 14426080 Kbytes - Do I need to
increase number_data_buffers here?

15:11:14 [184.102] <4> write_backup: waited for full buffer 80491 times,
delayed 80777 times - Do I need to increase size_data_buffers or
NET_BUFFER_SZ for this?

I'm confused as to which among the three parameters I should modify.

Thanks in advance,
Bryan
