[Veritas-bu] Restores ask for tape on wrong library
2002-04-05 16:18:18
All of what you say makes sense, and indeed, that's where we stand. The
point is that the backup was performed on server/library A and Netbackup
will only do the restore on server/library B.
Even after doing the bpimage command, it still wants machine B to do the
backup.
We have to get this fixed because it is doing this for every restore. It
always wants us to move the tape to the "other" machine. There are times
when we need to move many tapes and it is getting really old hat.

I'm guessing you have media servers that talk to one library or the other,
but
not both. The restore will use the media server used for the backup. If it
doesn't have access to that library it will create a pending request on a
library that it does have access to (and has that media type drive).
You need to do a Server Independent Restore from a media server that does
have
access to the robot the tape is in (or just move the tape to the other
robot).
See NBU Admin Guide for more info.
The bpimage command you used should have worked for future restores for that
tape assuming the newserver you moved it to had access to that robot. If
both
media servers are still available, bpmedia may have been better than
bpimage.
bpmedia updates the image catalog and moves info from the media server's
MediaDB to the new media server.

I have two HP surestore silos.
Every time I do a restore, the tape request wants the tape mounted in the
"other" library. So, if the tape was written in Library A and lives in
Library A, the restore wants to read the tape in Library B.
Why is this? How can I get it to read the tape regardless of where it
currently resides?
I have tried to "move" the image to the other library when such a request
pops
up with no success. The command I've used is:
bpimage -id tapeid -newserver B -oldserver A
Can anyone help me?
Thanks a bunch!
