It is so tempting:
My list
1) There is no client initiated incremental/differential backups..
2) The Scheduler is a freshman C++ 101 first assignment, the new version, is the
second assignment, lets add a calendar!! :)
3) Sap Backint extension!! Creates 100's of jobs. You can do a 2 phase backup,
but you can not recover it in 1 phase, well you can but Netbackup would not know
about it...
4) No good load balancing option for multiple streams.
5) No central location for controls/directives, it is a pain to do dynamic
backup lists (ahh and try incrementals on that !!) GDM, perhaps a new
architecture first, then gdm.
6) There is no good reporting tool, especially performance reporting is pretty
much a joke. try getting anything useful for client initiated backups or
multiplexed backup performances. What about network??
7) They come out with a new version every 2-6 months. Hmm, 3.2, 3.4, 3.4.1,3.4.2
.... Try pushing it out to 300+ master servers, 2000 clients
8) All new versions come out with major bugs/futures choose the one you like.
By the time the version is stable, there is a new one :)
9) I love their support: You can call them and say, all my backups are failing,
I see smoke coming out of my silo, they will reply, so sir, which patch level
are you at? Install 3.4.2 and see if the smoke stops :) ... Ahh also, they
do not support 99% of the configurations you are at, Using OS Version?
11.22.01.1, sorry we only support version 11.22.01.0 ;)
10 ) Well I guess I have to say they have though job managing a software that
touches everything, from storage to network to OS to User...
All have a great week.
