You did it right all along, up until the point you upgraded to 3.4. In 3.4
Veritas starts requiring the passthrough drivers.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Which HP/UX driver for robots
All,
We have been having some issues with downed drives. We are running an
N4000 with HP/UX 11.0 and NetBackup 3.4.1 (3.4 with J0850645 patch.) We are
running over LVD SCSI to a Scalar 1000 with IBM LTO drives.
Tech support claims we should be using the "spt" or "sctl" drivers to talk
to the library. We have always used the "schgr" driver in the past, which
creates the /dev/rac/cXtXdX device. Have we been doing this wrong all this
time?
Any opinions would be welcome!
