RHEL 5.3 client (nmc=7.6), has been working fine until today when
applied some RedHat updates. Now the gstd daemon will not stay up when I
start it, so I can't login to NMC as a result. The error log on the NMC
host shows:

I, too, have experienced a very similar problem on at least three separate occasions. It seems that this can be caused by a number of possibilities, with patching of the OS being one of them. I think when nmc gets installed, it creates a certificate, and maybe when the server gets licensed, or something else happens, that certificate is no longer viable???

The first time this happened, I un-installed and re-installed nmc, and all was fine. Kind of a pain, though! I think at that time that our server expired (eval copy), and that may have contributed?

The next time it happened, we were under 45-day enablers, and I carried out the fix outlined below. Then last night, we shut our server down (reboot), following a firmware upgrade to the tape library, and after restarting NetWorker, nmc would not run!!! - very similar to your situation, but I see messages in the gstd.raw file like this:

gstd 53 acm: External directory library initialization failed 0
376 1269918915 0 0 2 4147796704 9196 0 server1 gstd 14 %s error: %s%s 3 0 6 SYSTEM 0 99 Failed to retrieve csp_serviceManager. Error code: -8, message: Primary internal decryption failed. 0 0

This is exactly what happened last time. Anyway, I carried out the same fix as I did before, and it works now.

See:

for the steps I used.

I should note that both this time and the last time this happened, I did not move 'Config.xml' to another directory nor did I copy 'Config.xml.template' to 'Config.xml' as suggested. I left that file alone, but did move the other two files. Everything worked fine.

hope this helps?

George

Did the RHEL update cause this ??? How are we to maintain our stuff if
an update breaks NMC ??
Guess maybe an un-intstall / re-install might fix this?

Thanks ....
