Microsoft removed the capability to truncate logs in SQL Server 2008
with full backups, only incremental backups will truncate the logs. Log
truncation does not reduce the size of the physical log, see
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms365418.aspx and
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms178037.aspx for details.

I set up 2 groups with 2 client definitions. 1 runs at 01:00 FULL, 1
runs at 23:30 incremental every 4 hours. Both work according to NMC.
However, the logs on SQL Server 2008 are not smaller. I am also working
with EMC tech support on this issue and as of yet do not have a
solution. 1 point of interest is that the truncate_only option is no
longer available in SQL Server 2008 which causes client-side initiated
backups using the Networker User for SQL Server module to throw an error
when you check the "truncate content before performing backup" option.

I upgraded the module today to the latest/greatest release Version
5.2.1.299 and still no joy. It does however create this message early in
the backup process:

70857:(pid 5668):The -T option will be ignored, TRUNCATE_ONLY is not
supported in SQL 2008

Thanks

Trey

Will require two client definitions, one using the "Full Always"
schedule at 1:00AM and the other using the "Incr Always" schedule at
1:00PM.

Subject: [Networker] SQL Server 2008 Transaction Logs not truncated by
backups

Networker performs a Full backup of my SQL databases daily at 1am using
EMC Networker Module for MS SQL Server v.5.2.0.71. This backup is
initiated from my Networker server v. 7.5.1 Build 269. I believe if I
performed incremental backups the transaction logs would be truncated. I
would prefer to continue to take fulls at 1am and add an incremental at
1pm. I would also prefer to control both of these with 1 schedule. Is
this possible? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Trey Clanton
