I am going to have to start password protecting (and probably, encrypting)
my Networker scheduled backups. I am going through the Admin Guide, and am
unclear on a couple points:
(this is for all Windows clients)
I want to apply the password and/or encryption to all my scheduled jobs. I
realize that this means I need to add lines to my directives. I do use
global directives (to skip certain file types, etc). But I am unclear
where I save the password. I do want it as a global directive (i.e., not
have to touch any clients). And I guess I am not groking how to do that,
from the examples - where the password is entered, is the password file
itself encrypted, etc.
Also, suppose I need to do a restore to a different NetWorker server (my
current one melts down, and I need to re-create a new one from scratch).
How do I verify that the backup sets can be decrypted? I also many times
have to do a recover to a different NW server, at one of my remote sites
(my remote sites all run NW Business Edition, instead of the Network
Edition I run here at the data center). If I do a recover of a password
protected / encrypted backup set to a completely different NW server, what
would I have to do to ensure that the backup set can be recovered and
properly opened/used/etc?
I'm guessing that I need to use the same password at all my sites, but
what of the decrypting?
Thanks for any clues ...
