Stan,

I never thought of creating an individual group per letter. You must
have more people than me.

I run a separate IS backup and a separate PF backup as well as the file
system backup.

I have three groups for my Exchange server backups; each of which is scheduled so its backup does not overlap with the others. One group includes just the IS and PF stuff. The other group contains MB:/A*, MB:/B*, and so on for 36 different save sets. I do not have a separate group for each "MB:/x" I have all 36 specified in the savesets field in a single client entry. The third group is just the regular file system backup.

I am fairly sure this should work out well. Our Exchange server is only a couple of months old and it has not been fully deployed yet; its intended only for my University's senior excecutives, so I doubt it will ever hold more than a few hundred mailboxes. We are in the process of setting up a DR server for this thing, but until that's done, I will not be able to check the integrity of the IS backups. I have done quite a few MB recovers to make sure those work, and they seem okay.

Like you, doing Exchange backups is a fairly new thing for me. I had a lot of help from people on this list, Cambridge Computer, and EMC's tech support to get this up and running in a Windows cluster environment.
