I suggest you tell management that you are the expert 
and suggest that 2.5 weeks is fine. OR
Inform management that 2 weeks is what they get!

 it is not their concern how you do it the fact that you have more is a 
plus.
And you yourself should be thinking in terms of how many tapes you are 
keeping and in what configuration.

If you really want to do what management suggested. make full's on every 
wednesday as well.  that's close enough to the target.
