Hi Steve,
You are right, those are the claims regarding all devices that get
supported in the kernel.
SUN support/engineering have decided for you what are the optimal
features for you.
However, once you start facing strange errors with your tape drives you
start asking yourself if the right options have bee specified...
What I am looking for is a way to figure out what are the "SUN default"
options for lets say HP LTO2.
Once I will be able to know what those are I can compare the defaults to
the possible values as per the "st" driver man documentation.
The only other option would be just to ignore the "SUN defaults" and
always specify your own with the aid of the st.conf file.
Unfortunately I could not get hold of anyone within SUN support to
provide me this information.
I wander if there is any back door to figure out the kernel default
values, the same as you could do a "strings /kernel/drv/st | grep LTO"
to figure out what LTO tapes are supported.
