We did consider that once until we found (back then on w98 w95 machines and
NT4) that even if you have your data in lets say "My Documents" some
information might be somewhere else.

We had a user from the finance department who password protected her documents
during a crash we restored her data but she could not open them. it turned out
that a crucial component was in the Programs directory wher we did not expect
it. We had a full backup on her machine but since then I have been hesitant
not to back up machines as a whole.

It looks that W2000 and beyond have that better organized (if your software
uses those policys properly).

We currently have a rule that any directory called Nobackup is skipped.
users are free to move data there so it is not in the backup.

Bottome line: if you are sure all crucial informations is in those speial
directories then it seems sound.
