Hi John

>Also in V7 Disk Backup when a saveset goes recyclable does that mean that
the next backup could use that section of the disk >or do you have to wait
for all savesets on that target disk volume to go recyclable and
auto-relabel before you can write any new >savesets to that target disk
volume ?

I believe that the two NetWorker backup-to-disk devices behave differently
in this regard.

For 'file type' devices, NetWorker V7 will remove expired and aborted
savesets every 24 hours (after the savegroup is completed). If the device
runs out of disk space, the manual says, "Volume marked full and is no
longer available for backups until the volume becomes appendable." Because
the 'file type' device is written in Legato Open Tape Format, I believe that
the only way to make a 'full' volume become 'appendable' is to re-label it.

For the new 'advanced file type' device, NetWorker V7 will remove expired
savesets (aborted savesets are removed immediately) every 24 hours (after
the savegroup is completed) or when the device runs out of disk space. An
'advanced file type' device never becomes 'full (in the traditional
NetWorker sense).

The NetWorker Administrator Guide has a very good table that describes the
differences between the 'file type' and 'advanced file type'; in the
NetWorker for UNIX guide
(http://web1.legato.com/infodev/publications/NetWorker/UNIX/7.0/uxag_7.0.pdf
), it's Table 39 on pp. 256-258.

Hope this helps! Please question and correct this as needed.
