We've broken our Netware clients out into the volume's sub-dirs as
your describe.  The was to get a more managable savesets as the
entire volume was several hundred GB.   This gives some better performance
than one savestream also.

Fortunately, our directory names that we specificed  have no spaces and
are all 8 characters or less.  They all must be upper case also.

Not much more I can add.   I did post a directive on how we did it in
the Networker FAQ.. "How to backup subdirs as savesets and still get new
top level dirs"  or something like that.
