My problem has been resolved. Thank you to everyone who responded.

Andrew McGeorge hit the nail on the head. The problem was with DNS.
We had an old PTR in a db file that had failed to get updated. As most of
you
reminded me Networker does a reverse lookup to authenticate and obviously
the old backup server's name was being returned.
