I had a similar problem.

Just relabel the tape : media & file index are automatically updated and the
tape will be completely usable.

Subject: [Networker] Reusing a tape

I am running networker 6.1.1 on AIX 4.3.3. On a nightly basis we clone two
servers to a new tape for offsite storage, so we have a copy in which stays in
the library and one which goes offsite. We use a weekly tape rotation (ie. The
we send off for Monday night is not reused until next Monday). The clone tapes
are marked as manual recycle and I mark them as recyclable when they are
loaded. So on Monday night there is only one clone tape in the library which
is marked with manual recycle and recyclable. When it comes time to do the
clone legato does not use the tape it just says waiting for a writable volume.
If I change the tape and mark it as appendable instead of recyclable it uses
the tape but it does not overwrite the tape, which means in time the tape will
fill up. Is there a way I can tell legato to use and overwrite the tapes
instead of just appending to it? Thanks for your help.
