Hope this may fit in and may be easy.

First Install 4.X on new server and configure it as it is so that you are
sure that present set up is similar to 4.X on the other machine.Once this is
done do an upgrade to TSM 5.X to test it.

Else if you are confidant to upgrade it to 5.X why don't you backup all the
data and upgrade it to 5.X on the old one and then NFS export to test it on
new machine, this will make sure that your patches and devices configuration
are up to date on new machine. You can fall back to old one if problem
exists.

""In any case you have to backup the present data .""

You should also take a look at your mannuals for section on Upgrade from
4.X to 5.X when you purchase 5.X TSM.

Subject: Moving TSM from one AIX box to another

Hi,

We are getting ready to move our TSM server from an AIX machine running TSM
4.1.3 to an AIX machine running TSM 5.1.5 (or 5.1.6??). We will also be
moving our 3583 tape unit.

I have set up the new server and begun to play with it. I haven't decided
the best way to move the database. I don't really want to export/import
because I can move the data(tapes) directly to the new server. Can I run a
backupdb/restoredb from TSM 4.1.3 to TSM 5.1.6? Would this be the way to
go? Then I could move the tape library over and ?? checkin ?? the library
volumes etc. (This is where I am not clear how to proceed).

Any suggestions/gotchas/help! ?

Thanks,
