Hi,

if my understanding of TSM is correct then there is no Microsoft API for
DHCP. So TSM can't backup the DHCP database because it's always in use.
In the W2K DHCP Configuration you can define an interval when DHCP will
write a flat file copy of its database.
This file can be archived, restored and DHCP can rebuild its database from
this backup.

P.S.
After having a look at Richard Sims "ADSM/TSM Quick Facts" at
http://people.bu.edu/rbs/ADSM.QuickFacts I found the following explanation:

DHCP database, back up Do not attempt to back this up directly:
it can be made to produce a backup
copy
                                        of its database periodically
                                        (system32/dhcp/backup), and then
that
copy can be backed up with TSM
                                        incremental backup. You also can
make a
copy of the DHCP registry setup
information in a REG file for
backup. The key is located in
                                        HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\

CurrentControlSet\Services\DHCPServer\
                                         Configuration.
                                        Ref: http://support.microsoft.com/

Is there anything in the TSM universe that you can't find in Richard's
Quick Facts ;-)

Betreff: DHCP.MDB fails to archive

Hi All

when I run an archive on a windows 2000 machine that host my DHCP server
the dchp.mdb file fails with an error. (in used by another process) how
can I backup / archive this file. Below is my archive copy group. I
currently run TSM 5.1.5 on windows 2000 platform and the clients are
also 5.1.5 This is just something I'm doing as a trial to market the
product and the customer is not impressed with this failure. Everything
else has worked great. Active directory backup and restore, SAP/R3
backup and restore etc etc... just this one hurdle.
