Hi Eric,

Each Oracle backup has a unique name based on a date/time stamp so only one
version of a backup on the TSM Server exists. The only possible way that an
object can be marked inactive is if you specifically mark it as deleted through
RMAN or EBU and that also removes it from the backup catalog on Oracle.
Therefor, you are right about VEREXIST and RETEXTRA. I hope this is clear. If
you need more assistance you can email me offline. Thanks.

Subject: Management Class for Oracle backups

Hi *SM-ers!
The TDP for Orcale manual is rather unclear about how to configure your TSM
management class for Oracle backups. The only statement is:

Use parameters in the Management Class definition to control when the
inactive object expires on the TSM server.
For the backup copy group, use:
   VERDELETED=0
   RETONLY=0
This erases the inactive objects from the server after the next inventory
expiration.

But how about the other parameters? Like VEREXIST and RETEXTRA?
What should I enter here? The defaults (VEREXIST=2 and RETEXTRA=30) don't
look right to me. Why keep files while Oracle can't restore them?
Thanks in advance for your reply!
Kindest regards,
Eric van Loon
